Samsung announces colourful 7 inch Galaxy Tab 3 Kids

In the past we have seen tablets for children from companies like LeapFrog and Genius. This time around, its electronic giant Samsung's turn to focus on devices for children. Samsung has now officially announced the Android-powered Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, a 7-inch tablet aimed at children.

The Tab 3 Kids is said to come pre-loaded with some highly rated apps for children. The company has even thrown in a new Kid’s Store. With the new store, Samsung is aiming at promoting the educational possibilities of technology for kids. Apart from pre-loaded educational content, users can also find games, entertainment and e-books. Samsung seems to be positioning the tablet as an educational tool with safety features for parents who might want to control what the child can access.

On the hardware front, the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids sports a 7-inch display with a 1024x600 resolution. It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core SoC, probably the Exynos 4 chip, along with 1GB of RAM. It has 8GB of on-board storage, expandable via a microSD slot up to 32GB. The tablet will also come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running the show.

Additional features include a Li-ion 4000mAh battery, a 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front shooter as well as support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. To ensure that kids find it attractive, the company has also crafted a yellow exterior with an orange rubber casing featuring a kid-friendly grip. The device also comes with a C-pen and offers multiple stands to choose from.

Parental control features like time-restricted access and the ability to choose only from select apps have also been added to the device. The Time Management feature allows parents to set specific time periods for use. When the specified time is up, a password protected lock screen appears which will require a parent or adult to enter the password to unlock the device. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids should be available in Korea by September, and gradually to other countries like China, Europe, the US, Africa, South America and South East Asia.
