Hot launches: Smartphones of July 2013


The month of July saw some really good smartphones being launched. On the list were some highly-anticipated flagships as well as some robust mid-range models. This month saw a new phone gracing the market almost every alternate day, going by the list atleast. So let’s get cracking. Here are the smartphones of July.

LG Optimus G Pro: The LG Optimus G Pro was launched in India last month with a price tag of Rs 39,500. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display and a quad-core Snapdragon 600 SoC. Micromax Canvas 4: Priced at Rs 17,999, the Canvas 4 is definitely the company’s flagship smartphone and also the most expensive till date. The phone comes with a 5-inch 720p IPS display and a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Cortex A-7 processor. The Canvas 4 comes running Android 4.2.1 out-of-the box. HTC One Mini: The younger brother of HTC’s flagship One smartphone, the HTC One mini comes with a 4.3-inch display and a 1.4GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 SoC. The device comes with Android 4.2.2 out-of-the-box with HTC’s trademark Sense 5 UI serving as excellent garnishing. The HTC One mini comes with an UltraPixel camera and a standard 1.6 megapixel BSI sensor.

Karbonn Titanium S9: Karbonn’s latest flagship smartphone is priced in the market at Rs 19,990. It comes with a 5.5-inch IPS display and Android 4.2.2 out-of-the-box. Under the hood the smartphone comes with a quad-core MediaTek MTK 6589 chip clocked at 1.2GHz. In addition, the Titanium S9 sports a 13 megapixel primary camera with an LED flash as well as a 5-megapixel front shooter.

Xolo Play T1000:
Priced at Rs 15,999, the 4.7-inch IPS display-sporting T1000 comes with an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core chip under the hood. Additionally, the smartphone sports an 8 megapixel primary camera and a 2 megapixel front shooter. Here's our full review.

Spice Pinnacle FHD:Spice introduced the Pinnacle FHD a few days after Micromax launched the Canvas 4. Priced at Rs 16,990, the 5-inch full HD smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and comes with Android 4.2 OS out-of-the-box. In terms of imaging, the Pinnacle FHD features an 8 megapixel auto-focus primary shooter with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Nokia Lumia 1020:The most talked about feature of Nokia’s newest entrant into the market is the 41-megapixel camera that has a bunch of impressive capabilities. Here's a closer look. Other features of the phone, once users can tear their eyes from the impressive camera, include a 4.5-inch AMOLED 720p display and a dual-core Snapdragon S4 SoC clocked at 1.5Ghz. 

BlackBerry Q5:Positioned at the “cheaper version” of the Q10, the Q5 comes with a price tag of Rs 24,990. The phone features a 3.1-inch IPS LCD display and under the hood comes with a dual-core Snapdragon SoC. Apart from a QWERTY keypad, the phone features a 5-megapixel primary shooter, a single LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera with 720p video recording. You can have a look at our review here.

Nokia Lumia 625:The Finnish phone manufacturer launched the Lumia 625 with a 4.7-inch super-sensitive LCD display and dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus SoC clocked at 1.2GHz. The smartphone comes with five brightly coloured changeable shells, a 5-megapixel autofocus primary shooter and a VGA front camera. The Lumia 625 has a price tag of 220 Euros (Rs 17,305 approx.)

Galaxy S4 Zoom: Priced at Rs 29,900, the S4 Zoom sports a 4.3 inch qHD sAMOLED screen and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor ticks away under the hood. In addition, the phone has an impressive 16-megapixel rear camera with 10x optical zoom strapped on, as well as a 1.9 megapixel front camera. But the 'crossover' look of the phone may not get too much love.

Galaxy S4 mini: The S4 Mini, which was launched in India last month, has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a qHD resolution. Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor. The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. The S4 Mini is equipped with an 8 megapixel shooter on the rear and a 1.9 megapixel camera on the front. 

HTC Desire 600:Priced at Rs 26,990, the dual-SIM capable smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch qHD display and a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 SoC, despite being a mid-range smartphone. Coming in with HTC’s latest Sense 5 UI, the phone also sports an 8 megapixel primary shooter and a 1.6 megapixel front camera.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra: The massive phablet comes with a 6.4-inch full-HD Triluminos LCD panel and a price tag of Rs 46,990 to match the size. Under the hood, the Z Ultra has a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC. In addition, the smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel primary camera with Exmor RS sensor and a 2-megapixel front shooter. Here's a first look at the Z Ultra.
