Microsoft rolls out Windows 8.1 RTM for hardware partners

 M
icrosoft has officially begun rolling out Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 to its hardware partners, according to the official Windows blog. Keeping in mind that it has been less than a year since the company first launched Windows 8 into the market, the timing seems pretty good.

An earlier report had stated that the company was planning to roll out the update to its partners by the end of August. By the looks of it, the company is keeping up to its promises. The official Window 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 update will be available to the general audience on October 18. The update should be available to users for download through the Windows Store

The company makes it a point to notice that in the past, releasing an update for manufacturing traditionally meant that the software was ready for customer use. This time around, the company is planning to work closely with its hardware partners to put in the finishing touches before rolling out the update to users. The company has also stated that its hardware partners will bring the update to a range of products, including tablets, notebooks, hybrids, and business optimised devices. There is still no mention about which hardware partners the company has released the update too yet, though.

The new update, which was initially called “Blue”, does a lot to fix the problems that Windows 8 was launched with. The 8.1 update will come with a host of new features, apps, new highlights and more. Microsoft is bringing the Start button back with the 8.1 update, improving multitasking, and tweaking its UI for smaller Live Tiles and 7- and 8-inch tablets. All in all, it seems like Microsoft is keen on quickly addressing the loopholes that Windows 8 came with. With the October 18 launch date drawing closer, Windows-based users don’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the latest update.
