WeChat app now available for BlackBerry 10

Text and voice messaging app WeChat has now been launched for phones running BlackBerry OS 10. The app is currently available on BlackBerry World and is free to download. The app has now been customised for BlackBerry 10, and also integrates with the BlackBerry Hub. WeChat is available across all countries that support BlackBerry World. It should be noted, though, that device support is limited to the BlackBerry Z10 running OS 10.1 and above.

The first feature WeChat brings to the table is one-on-one and group chat options, along with messages, texts and pictures thrown in. Users can even send voice messages to one another with a “Hold to Talk” feature, something that WhatsApp also added recently. The app also comes with a location-based service that allows users to find and meet new friends.

WeChat is available in a host of languages including English, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Malay, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Hindi and Turkish.

WeChat, which was rolled out in India sometime ago, has been tagged as one of the most downloaded apps on Android as well as iOS in the country. An intriguing feature of WeChat is “Official Accounts”, which allows brands and companies to interact with their users.
